DIY Buzzed: Beer Label Collage

15 Sep

Every bar – a bar at home or a regular bar – should be decorated with cool and unique pictures and decorations. That’s my opinion at least.

Whether they be funny, booze-related or just plain bizarre, these decorations give a bar some character and create good conversations.

As a DIY project, I started collecting beer labels to make into a collage that is now hung on a wall in our downstairs bar area.

I won’t lie. This took a while: the drinking, the peeling, the ripping the labels and having to start all over again. It was worth it though!

If you are planning on creating a collage like this, I would recommend peeling off the label right when you finish the beer and there is still condensation on the bottle. That’s the easiest way to pull the label off without ripping it. And, keep all the labels in a folder or somewhere they won’t get bent.

I’ve started collecting wine bottles to create an alter ego for this beer label collage. I’ve discovered wine labels are not as easy. Which is why I’m fairly positive my fiance wants to kill me as we have about 75 wine bottles “hidden” behind our trash.

I’ll get to it one of these days! 😉

Do you have any do-it-yourself decorations in your bar or home?

Sitting on Top of the World – High-Top Tables

5 Jul

I am a huge fan of hanging out with good company at a bar/restaurant that has a lengthy selection of craft beer on tap. When we can’t get a seat at the actual bar, we move to the next best thing: high-top tables.

Sure, maybe a regular table works best if you are meeting up for dinner with a long lost friend. Or, you maybe you are looking for a quieter time. However, if you’re looking for a good time, good laughs and a fun atmosphere – a high-top table is where it’s at.

There is something about sitting at a high-top table that is just more comfortable, more personable and way less formal that sitting in a booth, or regular table. Sitting high also offers you prime real estate for people watching, one of my favorite things to do. Being short, it offers me just the boost I need to see the perfect 180 degree-view of the whole area.

Maybe I just like the boost in height for just a quick minute, but if there are no seats at the bar open, a high-top table is where I want to be.

Do you agree?

A Pirate’s Life for Me: Hooks

23 Jun

Some times it’s the little things in life that make a big difference, for me it’s the availability of hooks when sitting at the bar. It might not sound like a big deal – especially if you are male – but it’s flat out annoying to try and figure out where to put your purse without it falling on the ground, or even just knowing your purse accessible to anyone standing behind you. (Paranoid? Maybe, I had my identity stolen a few years ago.)

Now I’m not talking about the girl hook:

I’m talking about  hooks often referred to as the ‘drunken octopus’ hooks that are screwed into the actual bar.

For this reason, any time I am sitting at a bar with hooks, it enhances my experience. My opinion of the bar becomes just a little bit better knowing that they are also thinking of their female customers – and the fact that I no longer have to worry about where my purse is.

I’m so pro-hooks, in fact, that it was my one request as my fiancé was finishing our bar that we have downstairs in our house. (We have a split level ranch, and downstairs is our ‘hang out’ area with our friends.)

Am I just obsessed or are you pro-hooks as well?
